Local Kensington Info
Kensington is an area situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in west and central London. The name of the area is supposed to mean Kenesigne’s land or meadows in Anglo-Saxon.
The area is nowadays very affluent and has a dense population. It offers a great number of places to go for the residents of the district as well as for visitors. If you love shopping you have found the perfect place, because Kensington High Street is a busy commercial street, where a lot of shops are situated. It is not by chance that the street was announced to be the second best shopping street in the capital in 2005.
The area also contains the well-known museum district of South Kensington, so there are a lot of other cultural entertainments, which you might find appealing.
If you are tired of the constant noise and pollution of the city, then you might as well like to spend some nice time in the many green parks and gardens of Kensington. A lot of small residential square gardens offer some piece and quietness for the residents. Royal Parks, Kensington Gardens and Holland Park, situated north of Kensington High Street, are larger green areas, which you can visit.
In the area there are a lot of cafes, coffee shops and restaurants. Some of the nice places to have lunch, beer or dinner are ‘Ffionas’, ‘The Jam Tree’, ‘The Abingdon’ and ‘Aubrey Restaurant’.
Kensington is well served by public transport and you can easily reach the neighbouring areas, as well.
